ignored segment of the American population and have proactively designed programs to assist those most in need. Unfortunately, accessibility to these programs is often complicated by the intricate paperwork and eligibility requirements. From health care to housing to transportation and nutrition, the MAOF SHIAS staff connects clients to the services that keep them healthy and independent.
Since its inception in 2009, MAOF SHIAS has worked directly with the local Latino senior citizen population in identifying and obtaining services crucial to maintaining a high quality of life. Information services for seniors include but are not limited to: food bank resources to improve nutrition, home modification (wheelchair ramps/grab bars/shower hoses/commodes) and automatic night lights to prevent falls, smoke detectors, and electric bill low-income application assistance.
Additionally, MAOF SHIAS has managed evidence-based programs that address chronic disease management, reduce depression, improve memory functions, and provide powerful tools for family caregivers. MAOF also hosts an annual caregiver conference.
