CITI Global Community Day

Screen Shot 2017-07-25 at 5.12.58 PMOn June 10, 2017, MAOF hosted CITI Global Community Day, an annual
event whereby Citi bank employees volunteer their time, skills and expertise to make a difference in the community they have annual presence in. Citi Community Development Vice President Laura Peralta and over 50 Citi volunteers gathered at MAOF’s headquarters in Montebello to conduct pre-employment workshops for youth to prepare them with interview skills that would lead to summer employment and painted a structure at MAOF’s headquarters. Ms. Laura Peralta describes Citi’s commitment to agencies serving low income communities as, “Beyond monetary contributions, Citi provides additional support in forms of volunteers and program development to non-profit organizations.” Since its inception in 2006, Citi Global Community Day has contributed
over 2 million volunteer hours to communities throughout the world.

MAOF appreciates all the support given by Citibank to host an event that
has lasting impact on many of the youth whom have a unique opportunity
to gain knowledgeable experience that will help them in their future, as
they transition to the workforce. Many of our youth do not have the support they need in order to pursue higher education. During and after
high school most youth are eager to join the workforce. Hosting such
events as career day for our youth serves as motivation to continue striving
for their career goals.

The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation is grateful to Citibank for
dedicating their time and funding to underserved youth and families in
need. This year MAOF and Citibank were able to offer a $500 scholarship
to a lucky youth to assist in college expense. The Citibank scholarship
was given to a youth who stated that she was motivated to pursue
higher education since her parents did not have the same opportunities
as her because both had to leave their country to pursue the American
Dream. These youth are our future, the ones who will promote change in
their communities.

MAOF is honored to collaborate with Citibank employees to impact
low-income communities by giving back through volunteerism
