MAOF Dedicates Computer Clubhouse

Los Angeles, CA: The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation celebrated the grand opening of its Computer Clubhouse with music, refreshments and a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at La Alameda Shopping Center. The Computer Clubhouse is located on the second floor at La Alameda Plaza, 2154 E. Florence Ave., in Walnut Park.

“The Computer Clubhouse is a safe, after-school learning environment for our youth,” said Martin Castro, MAOF President & CEO. “This will be a place where they can be inspired to create, design, build and share projects, and to broaden their math and science knowledge.” The facility is open from 3:00 to 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.

MAOF board member William Izabal was instrumental in developing the concept for the Computer Clubhouse in collaboration with Listo America, a non-profit organization he founded, and MAOF. The Computer Clubhouse received an initial financial grant from Congresswoman Lucille Roybal Allard. IBM donated 20 computers. The Computer Clubhouse was granted a license from Intel Computer Clubhouse Network and became part of a global after school program with more than 100 Computer Clubhouses in 23 countries.

Additionally, Northrop Gumman Corporation, AT&T and Southern California Edison provided financial contributions.
